Barack Obama's decisive win in the North Carolina primary and his extreme closeness against Hillary Clinton in the Indiana primary should have convinced the Wicked Witch of Westchester to concede the nomination last night. It did not. The former First Lady claimed victory in Indiana - before anyone even called it - and vowed to keep campaigning as long as there were still states holding contests. Today she was in West Virginia ahead of that state's primary on May 13, while Obama began focusing on the general election and John McCain. Someone please tell Hillary (except Obama, he'll look to churlish on account of being her opponent for the nomination) it's over. The math is against her ,her gains from Ohio and Pennsylvania have been negated by Obama's showing last night, and the party needs to get behind a nominee immediately.
Obama, for his part, seems to be learning how to campaign on a more personal level and relate to more ordinary voters. He'll need that common touch to stave off a strong challenge from McCain. A souring economy and an interminable war will help the Democrats. But it won't be enough.
