My oh my, the Republicans have gotten themselves into a spat of trouble, haven't they? Bob Woodward's new book, "State of Denial," goes in full detail on Bush's complete cluelessness on Iraq and how all of the evidence against pursuing the war can't budge him from his stand on the conflict. Any official reports contradicting Bush have ended up getting suppressed, as if they related to global warming. Many people in the administration have urged Bush to fire Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, with no success. Bush has insisted that he will continue to the war in Iraq to the conclusion he envisions - whatever that is - even if his wife and his dog are the only ones supporting him.
Meanwhile, Representative Mark Foley (R-FL) has resigned after being caught sending lewd, vulgar e-mails to a sixteen-year-old male page. As bad as the act itself is, the possibility that House Speaker Dennis Hastert might have ignored the problem or, worse, tried to cover it up means that the Grand Old Patriarchs have a lot of explaining to do to their evangelical base. . . and the nation as a whole.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are favored to gain control of the Senate in November. :-D :-O
