Last night I attended a Japanese dance concert at Pace University in Lower Manhattan given by Miss Sachiyo Ito, whom I've volunteered for on an on-and-off basis, and her dance company. I got in for free - but I had to earn the free admission. I did that by helping Ms. Ito move lots of stuff to the theater on Wednesday, and I helped after the show was over to take apart some of the set. It was a splendid evening, with all kinds of Japanese dances from Kabuki to Okinawa style, plus a martial arts demonstration or two. One of Ms. Ito's dances was even set to music from, of all acts, the British rock band King Crimson! Type in "Sachiyo Ito" and "King Crimson" on Google, and this site is the only one you'll get! :-)
I hadn't been able to help her much to prepare in advance. I didn't help her at all in August, because I was working and she only needed weekday help. Of course, once I got downsized, I could barely afford the bus fare to go into Manhattan to help her. Ironic, isn't it?
Nevertheless, I was glad to help where and when I could, which included putting pictures of Ms. Ito in various roles into frames, so they could be hung up in the theater lobby. I got a thrill at looking at the pictures on the all, in their frames, and thinking, "I did that!" So, that was my weekend. Ms. Ito doesn't have anything else scheduled before February, so I probably won't see her before then.
Regarding Bob Woodward's latest book: I'll get to it. ;-)
