Another Attack On Amtrak

While Bush is getting a lot of attention for his Social Security "reform" package, he's slipped another indecent proposal in his budget - he wants to eliminate federal funding for Amtrak, the national passenger railroad system, and let the already cash-strapped states pick up the tab for it.
The eight states that would be most affected by Amtrak losing federal subsidies and possibly going bankrupt would the states along the heavily used Boston-Washington Northeast Corridor - Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland - plus the District of Columbia, obviously. What do these states - and the District - have in common? They all went for John Kerry in the November election!
I'm too exasperated to be outraged by this.
