The year is ending for me on a mix of good and bad, though I'd prefer to emphasize the good. For example, I am definitely going to get one of my freelance articles published! The article in question is about Leslie Ingram, a fitness instructor based in Bloomfield, New Jersey, near where I live. It will be in Ms. Fitness, an Oregon-based exercise magazine. Watch for it.
As with anyone who tries to practice the common decencies as much as possible and is interested in promoting the amenities that make a country civilized and worth living in, I am completely bummed that the Republicans now control the Presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court for the first time since 1930. We already have a depression; all we lack are marches put on by unemployed veterans. (Stay tuned on that.) I'm now looking toward 2004, to see if the Democrats can do even worse.
I'm going to enjoy myself at my local First Night celebration and hopefully get to see Phoebe Snow (the one and only!), although, I've had trouble finding anyone who can or will sell me a ticket to let me in to that performance. Anyway, I know she'll sing "Poetry Man," but I'm also hoping she'll do her cover of the Beatles tune "Don't Let Me Down" and her remake of the Paul McCartney solo tune "Every Night."
Happy New Year!
(P.S. I finished "The Bostonians" tonight!)
