Well, I made it to the local First Night celebration. Most of the acts I saw were decent, but Phoebe Snow, to be sure, was superb. She performed "Poetry Man," of course, and interesting take on "Piece of My Heart," among other things (no Lennon-McCartney tunes, alas), but the biggest surprise of the concert didn't involve Phoebe Snow herself.
Sitting a few feet away from me in the audience was Sandra King, a local newswoman. Sandra King is a journalist on New Jersey public television who once did field reports but now hosts a legal affairs show every week. I didn't say anything to her, though, because of something that happened nearly a decade ago. I saw her at the groundbreaking ceremony for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, and I went over to her and introduced myself to her with the intent of telling her how much I liked her work - and she blew me off!
So this time, I chose to ignore Ms. King instead of giving her an ego boost by acknowledging her. And besides, I couldn't tell her that I like the work she's doing now - I don't watch legal news shows because they bore me to tears.
Gee, I could have written a profile article on Sandra King. I could have offered the opportunity to her last night. But I let that opportunity pass. She blew me off - I'm blowing her off. Too bad.
