I was over at my grandmother's house this morning helping her reprogram her television set's remote control, and the set was on showing an infomercial for an exercise program, and I was shocked to see who was on it endorsing the product . . . Olympic swimming champion Janet Evans.
How depressing.
Can anyone explain to me what kind of a nation we live in where football players who may have taken one blow to the head too many become sports commentators and the greatest living female swimming champion in America - not to mention the cutest - is appearing in infomercials being aired on Lifetime (motto: All Men Suck) on Sunday mornings? Janet Evans should be a high-profile sportscaster and a leading voice for the advancement for women's sports, and instead she's going the route of . . . Dara Torres?
This is what happens in a country that takes football so seriously and disregards aquatic sports so much that you can't even give away tickets to swimming meets. In short, this is not Australia.
