No We Cantor

Since I posted yesterday about Eric Cantor's stunning primary loss in Virginia, the House Republican leader has announced his resignation as leader effective July 31, with a successor to be voted on next week.  Many liberal groups are treating this as a victory for their side and is causing the Republican Party to spin out of control, but last time I checked, the Republican establishment and the Tea Party have more in common with each other than with the progressive and Blue Dog wings of the Democratic Party.  Also, again, Republicans still have the power.  Or maybe you didn't notice the fact that they blocked student loan reform and dismissed it as a political stunt!
(Oh yeah, more information on this David Brat character . . . He's an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College whose personal theory is that virtue is the source of economic growth, thus showing a personal ignorance for how the transcontinental railroad was built.  As it turns out, his Democratic opponent, Jack Trammell, is a sociology professor at the same college.  That'll make the faculty meetings there at the start of the fall semester uncomfortable!)
And for all the crappola about the Tea Party on its last legs, it and its affiliated activist groups (Freedomworks, et. al.) are still either getting themselves elected or pushing mainstream Republicans farther to the right.  Compare that to Occupy Wall Street, which did not put candidates up for election in Democratic primaries, raised no money to elect progressives to office, and did not move to push Democrats farther to the left.  All they did was camp out in a public square in Lower Manhattan and sing folk songs.  I'm obviously ticked off at them.  But all we were really trying to do was change the political conversation, they say.  To which I say: Shut up! Don't talk to me!
Yeah, that's right, Occupiers, I'm treating you like you're my kids.  Did you change anything like I told you to?  No, 'cause you're always on those damn IPhones!  God, I can't count on you son-of-a-bitchin' kids to do anything, you never listen to me!
Now go to your rooms.
