Happy birthday to Britain's Prince Charles, who turned sixty yesterday. He's now older than his great-great-grandfather Albert Edward was when he became King Edward VII. The Queen, bless her heart, remains on the throne at 82, is extremely healthy, and won't likely abdicate in her son's favor - this ain't Holland, buster! - but Charles has been very happy , thank you very much. He's redefined his role as the Prince of Wales by establishing a charity, promoting New Urbanism and organic food, and protecting Britain's architectural past by speaking out against the products of its present. Ironically, he won't be able to be so active if and when he becomes king - not because he'll be too old, but because those roles aren't fit for a king (cliche unintended). The King of Great Britain must serve above quotidian affairs of Charles's sort and serve as a symbol of national unity.
If Charles does become king, he will likely reign as George VII, not Charles III. The first two Charleses were held in low regard. And, they were Scottish! :-O
Just kidding, Scotland. ;-)
