Sarah Palin's debate performance at the vice presidential debate was vicious and pathetic. Palin repeatedly took the offensive on various issues with only some of her facts straight, disrespected the format, and refused to answer the questions. Her performance may have reassured Republicans who worried about her stature - the threshold was so low - but Joseph Biden was very well grounded in his defense of Barack Obama and his attacks on John McCain. He even admitted to having a weakness, as moderator Gwen Ifill asked both candidates, but Palin even ducked that question.
What worries me is that Palin will be seen as the better debater for her style, not her substance. Yes, it's only the vice presidential debate, but remember, one of these nominees could be a heartbeat away from the presidency!
Meanwhile, ironically, I just wrote my latest MySpace blog presidential biography entry on John Tyler, the first Vice President to assume the presidency in an emergency transition.
