The failure of Lehman Brothers, coupled with the bargain-basement sale of Merrill Lynch to the Bank of America and complimented by AIG's reeling fortunes, have brought to light most it not all of the shenanigans on Wall Street that have persisted for the past quarter century. Until today, it was pretty hard for the average person to comprehend or even follow casually the Ponzi schemes and slights of hand that have run our financial sector.
Now we know. The stock market is over five hundred points down, 25,000 Lehman Brothers employees are out of work, and the reverberations are about to be felt in an already faltering economy.
If John McCain is elected President, it will be because Barack Obama couldn't come up with a catchy slogan to sum up the economy which people couldn't understand.
But I think they can understand this.
George Walker Bush certainly doesn't.
