Various Comments On the News

I'm still more or less on hiatus, but let me offer brief comments on the events of the past week:
The latest news of the destroyed videos of CIA terror suspect interrogations indicates that the CIA and the White House have something to hide, but neither CIA director Michael Hayden nor George W. Bush seem to have a clue as to what is actually being hidden. I find it hard to believe that they do know what's going on.
If you need evidence that our society is falling apart, the Nebraska and Pennsylvania shootings ought to be it. The former shooting was committed by a young man who clearly seemed to have trouble fitting into society at all.
If Mitt Romney is elected the first Mormon President of the United States, people may be comfortable with his religious beliefs. People should be less comfortable, though, with his implicit message that the U.S. is somehow a better nation when its leaders and its people are men and women of faith, preferably of a Western faith. Agnostics and Muslims need not apply.
And Americans who turn to Krishna are, apparently, really weird. :-(
