Everybody Loathes Ray

I know I'm late in commenting on this, but. . . .
Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans seems to have offended black and white folks alike with his remarks that New Orleans should remain an overwhelmingly black city - a "chocolate city" - in the wake of projections of a post-Katrina New Orleans being more heavily populated by middle-class whites flies in the face of respecting "diversity," which the Democratic Party (to which Nagin belongs) supposedly champions. What's wrong with a more biracial, economically varied city? Middle-class suburbanites, white, black or other, should be encouraged, not discouraged, to move to New Orleans. The city sure could use the tax base and the economic underpinnings needed to revive New Orleans or any city in America. The middle class can provide that.
And it beats living in the vanilla suburbs. ;-)
