John Kerry recently announced that he will attempt a filibuster against Samuel Alito in the Senate, even though most Democrats don't have the stomach for one and they're aware that Bill Frist has the power to change the rules to prevent filibusters on judicial nominees if it happens. Kerry is apparently either hoping this will reinvigorate the Democrats and give them the backbone to stand on principle in the future or expecting it to increase his chances for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. It will likely do neither.
Though, anyone who's ever listened to a Kerry speech or heard him explain a position would agree that he's the man to filibuster anything. Who better to bore the Senate to death? :-D
