It should be obvious by now that Donald Trump was perfectly aware of what was going on at the Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. He not only supported the insurrectionists, he directed and commanded them from his self-appointed battle station in the White House with his now-banned Twitter account. He encouraged the mob to bring weapons, allowed them to go into his rally with the metal detectors deactivated so they'd be able to go into the Capitol and attack the members of Congress and in an effort to seize power. His only regret was that he couldn't be with his troops - the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers - as he promised to.
But unlike Cleveland, who left office for good in at the end of his second term in 1897, Trump won't go so quietly if he comes back.
For now, the January 6 select committee is continuing to investigate to get more of the goods on Trump. And so, apparently, is the Justice Department - sources have communicated with Carol Leonnig of the Washington Post to say that an investigation into Trump's actions on January 6 is moving forward there, and Attorney General Merrick Garland more or less confirmed that in an interview with Lester Holt of NBC News.
See you in September.
