Something About Title 42

President Biden wants to repeal Title 42, which restricts migrants from crossing the Mexican border into the United Stats due to the pandemic, on the grounds that the COVID crisis has eased sufficiently, but the administration wants more COVID funding for a possibly massive wave this coming winter - funding that Republicans in Congress refuse to allow unless Title 42 is kept in place.

I don't get it either.

Look, this massive wave of COVID infections hasn't happened yet, and it's based on the possibility of a completely new strain developing - yet the only strains that have developed since Omiron are sub-strains of Omicron itself.  So lifting Title 42 makes sense.  But it is possible that a Pi strain could hit us in the face (get it?), so it's better to be safe than sorry by having COVID funding to prepare for the worst while repealing Title 42 with hope for the best. If COVID does produce an oncoming wave that makes the the Omicron wave of the winter of 2021-22 look like a negligible blip, Title 42 can be reinstated immediately  Simple.

As for the ability to handle so many migrants when Title 42 is dropped two weeks from today . . . well, there's doubt that the Biden administration can handle it.  Uh, I think they learned from logistical problems in Afghanistan, and this gambit should be easier because while the operation in Afghanistan was about getting out of a foreign country, this is about letting people in to our own country.  It certainly beats Trump's wall - or his other approach to border security, a proposal to hit Mexican drug-cartel hideouts with missiles!

Having said all that, I hope Biden doesn't screw this one up!

UPDATE: The courts put an indefinite hold on repealing Title 42, and a resolution to the issue is not likely any time soon.
