D-Day

Seventy-five years ago today.
Over 156,000 Allied troops commenced the invasion of World War II that was the beginning of Adolf Hitler's end - Operation Overlord.  American, British and Canadian troops stormed the beaches of Normandy to take back France and western Europe from the clutches of the Third Reich, in concert with the Soviet invasion of Nazi-occupied countries in eastern Europe.  Four thousand Allied troops died on this day fighting to take back Europe from the Nazi aggressors.
Paris was liberated by August 1944.  The western Allies met the Soviets in the heart of Germany at the Elbe River.  And it all began here.
We remember.
