I came across a tourist magazine at work today, brought in by someone who just came back from a trip to Michigan. The magazine actually does the impossible - it makes Detroit look like a fun vacation destination.
Detroit is a synonym for hell. The best time to visit is winter, when hell freezes over, because of the auto show - which somehow, despite the current crisis in the auto industry, still went on this year.
Go Lions - to the showers!

I don't know. I think every city has something even if it isn't big and glamorous.
But tourists magazines do have a way of making any place sound like paradise.
Detroit once had one of the most beautiful department stores in the country - Hudson's - but that's long gone. The Book-Cadillac Hotel, a great hotel in its day, has been restored to its former glory, however.
