Mandela At Ninety

Nelson Mandela turned ninety today, and he is still a great symbol of everything that is good and noble in this world. Jailed for over a quarter century for "revolutionary" activities by the racist white minority South African government, he never got bitter and retained his faith in humanity. He then went on to lead South Africa as its first black president and helped bring about an honorable, dignified rebirth of a country forged in bigotry and hatred. He was president of all South Africans,m of all races, creed and colors. That, as much as his struggle to end apartheid, is indeed revolutionary.
If I had to spend twenty-seven years in a prison on a rocky island, I'd be pretty damn ticked off.
