Yesterday was a big victory for the environment. The Supreme Court ruled against Bush's Environmental Protection Agency by insisting that automobile emission regulations were legal under the Clean Air Act (though not required). This is a big boast to the thirteen or so states trying to curb greenhouse gas emissions at the state level, and it pretty much forces both the White House and Congress to find a way to regulate tailpipe emissions more diligently going forward.
Justice Alito - the pride of my hometown - voted with the minority. :-O
Also, the Court ruled that utility companies were required by law to modernize their coal-powered generator plants to cut back on emissions. Earth Day came a few weeks early.
