Two political stories have caught my attention recently. Having won the best documentary Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth, Albert Gore is rumored to be considering another presidential run, and no one believes he's not interested; indeed, he may still be insisting he doesn't want to run for the Presidency even as he's being encouraged to. But I hope he does run, if only to stop Hillary, and the clearest sign that he will run is when he finally joins a gym.
Meanwhile, Tom Vilsack, the first Democrat in the 2008 presidential campaign, is now also the first one out. The former Iowa governor withdrew his candidacy owing to lack of money (that Hillary influence again), and will likely now begin a losing quest for the vice presidential nomination. It's really embarrassing to be forced out of a presidential campaign before anyone has even cast a single vote. . . especially when Chris Dodd is still a candidate! (The gray-haired senator must be hoping for the Helen Mirren effect to rub off on him.)
