Definition: The People's Choice Awards

The People's Choice Awards, which airs tonight on CBS, is a self-congratulatory awards event where overpublicized and undertalented entertainers win trophies voted on by the uneducated masses, the likes of whom wouldn't recognize a good song, movie, or television production if they stumbled upon it looking for downloadable porn or celebrity gossip on the Internet. It is all too appropriate that, when it was decided that the host of this year's awards show should be a thirtysomething black female entertainer, the organizers of this moronic spectacle chose Dana Owens (Queen Latifah to you, honky!), who got her start in show business making percussive noises with her mouth in a New Jersey high school rap group, and not Audra McDonald, who went to Juilliard.
