Leonard Luciano, a 25-year-old boy wonder in my hometown's municipal politics, ran for the town council, hoping to become the first Democrat elected to it since . . . since . . . since . . . Uhh, um . . .. Sorry, I can't remember a Democrat ever being on our town council. Of course, Luciano lost. He came in third in a contest for two seats. But just the fact that he apparently got enough petitions signed to get on the ballot is enough of an achievement. Most of the time, Republican council candidates are unopposed.

As of July 2016, Leonard Luciano is an Essex County freeholder, the county Board of Freeholders being the equivalent of a legislature.
