Oh crap, do I have to make my election campaign endorsements again? Ah, well, I'd best get it over with. Not that I have any hope that the government can get its act together no matter who's running it.
This year I'm going to offer a blanket endorsement of all Democratic candidates, because I'm that angry at Republicans. . . with two exceptions, which I'll get to later. Nonetheless, I will offer a few specific endorsements for key races.
For U.S. Senate, Pennsylvania: This blog endorses Robert Casey, Jr. Incumbent Senator Rick Santorum shows little regard for issues concerning the average voter, opposing public medical insurance and stem cell research, plus displaying an ugly homophobic attitude towards gays. Casey is clearly more in tune with Pennsylvania voters.
For U.S. Senate, New Jersey: This blog endorses Robert Menendez, the incumbent. Senator Menendez has supported abortion rights and stem cell research, plus he's more experienced that Republican rival Thomas Kean, Jr. Also, charges that he profited off an apartment house in Union City, N.J., have largely been unproven. Also, Kean has offered little reason to vote for him.
For U.S. Senate, Connecticut: This blog endorses Ned Lamont. DINO (Democrat In Name Only) Joseph Lieberman is wrong on Iraq, is wrong on foreign policy in general, and he's been there too long. Bear in mind the three-term incumbent defeated another three-term incumbent for his seat. Can you say "hypocrite," boys and girls?
For U.S. Senate, Tennessee: This blog endorses Harold Ford, Jr. Ford is a man of great integrity, and he would bring a needed urban perspective to the Senate, having represented a Memphis district in the House for ten years.
For U.S. Senate, Missouri: This blog endorses Claire McCaskill. Her opponent, incumbent Senator James Talent, is completely clueless on issues such as Iraq, on which he hasn't offered much of a clue of what to do about. Ms. McCaskill would be a breath of fresh air in the Senate.
For Governor of Massachusetts: This blog endorses Deval Patrick, the Democrat, in this bid for an open seat. Patrick was President Clinton's deputy attorney general for civil rights (he was Clinton's second choice after the Lani Guinier fiasco), so he has a proven record of looking out for people's rights. Note: if elected, Patrick will be Massachusetts's first black governor.
For Governor of California: This blog endorses Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yes, you read right. Look, I know I've made fun of him before, but the fact is, he's been an effective governor of the country's most populous state, encouraging state-funded stem cell research, putting the state on track to reduce greenhouse gases, and working well with the Democratic legislature. The Republican party needs him to cool their red-hot, right-wing attitudes.
For U.S. House of Representatives, New York, Nineteenth District: This blog endorses Democrat John Hall, the former leader of the seventies pop band Orleans. Barack Obama may be like a rock star in Washington, but Hall is the genuine article! :-D Also, Hall is for safe, clean, renewable energy, which he camapaigned for as part of the No Nukes movement started by Graham Nash and Jackson Browne in the late seventies. Ironically, Hall's district includes the Indian Point nuclear power plant, but that's not his fault.
For Governor of Texas: This blog endorses independent candidate Kinky Friedman. A state that's screwed up like Texas needs a Jewish cowboy to set things straight! Texans gotta get Kinky!
Now go out and vote on Tuesday.
