Right To Trial

Guess what? Some Republicans have brains. Some of them even have hearts, while others have courage. Enough of them decided to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain at the White House to declare opposition to said man's plan for allowing limited rights of the accused in war trials and brutal methods of interrogation to be used on prisoners taken in Iraq and Afghanistan. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), John Warner (R-VA), and John McCain (R-AZ) were instrumental in getting the Senate Armed Services Committee to oppose George W. Bush's novel interpretation of the Geneva Convention (the document his Attorney General once referred to as "quaint") out of concern for prosecuting the wars in both countries fairly to maintain what's left of our credibility in the world. Bush thought he had a potent issue on his side, but it turns out in a new poll that more than half of all Americans actually take a pretty dim view of bitch-slapping Arabs without a fair trial.
The Democrats are trying to both stay above the fray among Republicans and hold their glee. So far, it's working - Chuck Schumer hasn't opened his mouth once! :-D
