Not a Good Compromise

Before you rest easily about the "compromise" between the White House and Senate Republicans regarding the use of torture with Islamic terrorist prisoners who are slated for trial, consider this: The deal allows Bush to suspend the writ of habeus corpus against prisoners and detain anyone he even remotely thinks is guilty of terrorism, and the "limit" on his power is to broadly interpret the spirit of the Geneva Convention within the bounds of. . . well, anything he wants that doesn't involve the big M's - murder and mutilation. In other words, it allows Bush to continue exactly what he's been doing.
John McCain didn't compromise. He went right to surrender. His spirit was broken - but not in Vietnam.
If Hillary Clinton and John McCain are the 2008 major party nominees for President, Hillary may in fact have a fighting chance. :-O
