The New Jersey budget crisis was resolved late today, with the understanding that part of a sales tax increase would eventually go to fund property tax relief. Governor Jon Corzine announced the deal with more resignation than joy.
Before the state government shutdown was over, though, some female members of the New Jersey state legislature claimed that machismo was involved, with male governmental leaders fighting each over the budget as a display of manhood. One female legislator complained about all the "testosterone" involved. I'd like to remind these ladies that estrogen in the form of former governor Christine Todd Whitman is the main reason the state ended up with a budget mess in the first place.
Whitman, talked about as a potential presidential candidate in the nineties, is the future of the Republican Party. And she always will be. :-D
