Michael Jackson Not Guilty

And so white smoke billowed from the chimney of the courthouse in Santa Maria, California, the bells rang out, and a bailiff stepped out onto the courthouse steps to announce to the global media, "Habemus verdictum (We have a verdict)!"
No, not really, but when the verdict in the Michael Jackson case was announced, you can be forgiven for thinking it was as important as, say, the debut of the new Pope.
As anyone not hiding under rock for the past couple of days is now aware, Michael Jackson was found not guilty on all ten counts of sexually molesting boys and conspiring to cover it up. This is probably the greatest miscarriage of justice to come out the American judicial system in recent history; if there was ever a case where the defendant was clearly guilty - even I had to be convinced that O.J. did it - this is it. Jackson's escape from a prison sentence brings to mind his video from the song "Remember the Time," where he turns to group of fellows pursuing him, smiles mischievously at them, and then disappears in a whirlwind of dust and sand. Jacko just tweaked his pursuers and escaped their clutches for real.
Nevertheless, it's not likely that Jackson can regain his trust with music fans or reclaim any of his former glory on the pop charts. In the minds of many though, he is guilty as sin, and given his age - he turns 47 this August - on top of that, I don't see him having a hit record any time soon. Apart from brain-dead teenyboppers of all ages, no one likes Michael anymore. Heck, I stopped liking him back in 1983, when he began making extended-length videos and wearing all-lame (that's la-MAY) clothing. :-O
