The Dumbing Down of the Star-Ledger

More evidence that the Newark, N.J. Star-Ledger is becoming USA Today on the Passaic: The story of the accidentally shot Italian journalist in Iraq (the same wire story I read last night on the Web) appeared in today's Star-Ledger on page six. The Michael Jackson story appeared on page four, and the Martha Stewart story was on page two!
Oh yeah, the front page was dominated by local news and by George W. Bush's appearance in New Jersey yesterday to sell his Social Security plan. The event was just as staged and content-free as his other appearances for his Social Security plan, but it was big news for the Ledger because it was here in New Jersey!!
Please.
Still, there was one interesting nugget buried in the story of Bush's Social Security road show. A local supporter - yes, supporter - of the President expressed doubts about the proposal to partially privatize the system. Hmmm . . .
