Good Sports

Would you believe I've come to like "Listen Up," Jason Alexander's new CBS sitcom, more than I did when it first premiered three months ago? There are a few reasons for this. First of all, the writers seem to be gradually playing down the more annoying aspects of Tony Kleinman's children (his son being a birdbrain, his daughter being a shrewish little-miss-know-it-all), Malcolm-Jamal Warner is getting more time on screen, and the show is focusing more on Tony's sports-based media career - with cameo appearances from real athletes such as Doug Flutie and soccer star Brandi Chastain. May I suggest a possible guest star for a future episode - Janet Evans! :-D
Oh yeah, here's another reason to root for "Listen Up" - it's set in Philadelphia (well, the Philly suburbs, really, but I'll take it). There haven't been many shows set in the Philadelphia area, where I used to live, and one show that was set there (the suburb of Bryn Mawr, to be precise) was . . . "thirtysomething," one of those shows that made yuppies look even worse than they actually were.
