Pre-Olympics News

Marion Jones, as you probably know by now, failed to qualify for the 100-meter track race in the Olympics. She could still make it to Athens to compete in other events, but she won't go to defend her place as the world's fastest woman. Too bad.
As for the steroid charges involving that San Francisco-area lab and several track athletes, it looks like the specific athletes involved are clearly guilty. One, Kelli White, admitted as much, and now she's helping the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency root out the offenders. As for Ms. Jones's involvement . . . well, she hasn't been charged with anything, and there's no evidence that she used illegal drugs. So far, it's a case of guilt by association. Quite frankly, the steroid controversy is an issue that deserves a separate posting of its own, so I'll put it aside for now.
Meanwhile, at the Olympic swimming trials, Michael Phelps continues to rack up one impressive showing after another. The new Mark Spitz? We'll see! :-)
