Memorial Day 2004

I went to the Memorial Day parade in my hometown today. It was okay - lots of antique cars and fire engines. (Woo-woo!) A local high school marching band played, of all songs, Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode." My, how times change. :-)
One thing I did not appreciate, though, was a local church that featured a float showing a little girl dressed as the Statue of Liberty holding, in place of the tablet spelling out the date of the Declaration of Independence. . .a Bible!! Whatever happened to separation of church and state?
I didn't like the proselytizing flyers with the American flag on it that they handed out to parade goers, either.:-(
