The Bug Is Dead

It's a sad day for Volkswagen fans (like myself) everywhere. . . .The original Volkswagen Beetle, after 55 consecutive years of production, is being discontinued this summer at the VW plant in Puebla, Mexico, the last factory making them. An automotive symbol of practicality, quality, and sheer engineering genius is biting the dust.
This is far, far sadder news than GM's decision to retire Oldsmobile.
I had a 1972 Super Beetle, and of the four cars I've owned, it was one of the two better ones. (The other? My 2000 Golf, of course!) It started with ease, it handled like a dream, and it was always a pleasure to drive. The Beetle will be missed the world over now. R.I.P., VW Bug. :-(
