My Big Fat Greek Cancellation

It's official. Nia Vardalos's unacclaimed series, "My Big Fat Greek Life," is no more. CBS canceled the show after ratings sank deeper than a stone in the Aegean Sea. It was so bad, even the fans of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the movie on which it was based, didn't like it. Asked to comment on the cancelling, CBS programming chief Leslie Moonves, who was clearly embarrassed by giving the series the green light to begin with, simply replied, "You've seen the ratings. You've seen the show." Ouch!
Just the same, I hope Nia Vardalos goes on to greater success as an actress. Not that it's likely to happen. She's wrapped herself so much into her alter ego that people may not see her as anything other than a kooky Greek girl with an even kookier family. She's been famous for fourteen minutes and thirty seconds . . . and the clock is ticking. :-(
