'Tis Saint Patrick's Day! And a happy one to my fellow 'Net surfers of Irish descent!
I wanted to go to the St. Patrick's Day parade in New York, I really did. I had to work today, though, and besides, there's more security in New York these days than usual. Too bad; it was a beautiful day here in the East.
I did not, however, appreciate the lame attempt to mark St. Patrick's Day at my office. Anyone who wore green could dress casually today (I couldn't; I don't have any casual green clothes out right now!), and that included this one girl (she's Puerto Rican, not Irish) who dress in a green hip-hop outfit! (Yo, m'laddy?) And I don't even want to do more than mention the plastic green lei they were handing out! (Green lei? They don't even celebrate St. Patrick's Day like that in Honolulu!!)
It's quite amazing, really, how the holiest day in Ireland has been turned into a beer-swilling, green-wearing festival for obnoxious people of all ethnic backgrounds. So if you're not the least bit Irish, and you plan to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, please do me a favor - don't!
Hey, I'm not Mexican, so I don't put an sombrero and gorge myself on burritos and Dos Equis every May 5 for Cinco de Mayo!
