Between Iraq and a Hard Place

I finally got around to e-mailing my U.S. Senators urging them to vote against Dub's war plans against Iraq. What are the chances of success in this noble but naive effort? Not good. I understand, though, that Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) may threaten a filibuster against the resolution, and I e-mailed his office strongly urging him to do so!
As for my House member. . .well, he's a Republican (both of New Jersey's senators are Democrats), and he supports Bush. Although my congressman is a mild-mannered moderate, not a neanderthal reactionary, asking him to vote against the White House would be like asking him to go up to the House Republican whip, the insufferable Tom DeLay, and kicking the bastard in the shin. Republicans simply don't do anything to offend the party leadership, and going against Bush on Iraq would be an even bigger offense than physically attacking the House's #3 Republican.
In short, it's not going to happen.
