When Rudolph Giuliani accused the Democrats and numerous foreign actors (I don't mean movie stars) of participating in a plot to commit electoral fraud and giving the Presidency to Joe Biden over rightful winner Donald Trump, it wasn't just his hair dye that was out of control.
No one believes that Trump will succeed. Maybe they ought to. This is Donald Trump, after all, and he demonstrated an uncanny ability to always gets what he wants. And now he wants a second term. He's not stonewalling foout of his damaged ego. He wants to remain in the White House. Even if he ultimately doesn't succeed, however, he has sown enough distrust of Biden to cripple his Presidency on top of his refusal to concede and let the transition go forward.
Do I really believe that Trump could subvert the will of the people and give himself another term? Yes, because while that may seem far-fetched, that's not as far-fetched as declaring himself emperor after being term-limited, which is exactly how President Louis Napoleon Bonaparte of France became Emperor Napoleon III in 1852. And, of course, Adolf Hitler used the power of the German republic as chancellor to turn it into an authoritarian state - the Third Reich. Trump may be the underdog in this fight to hold on to power, and you may not fear him because the deck is stacked against him, but not being feared by his opponents and adversaries may be Trump's secret weapon. As the rock band Spoon once sang, you got no fear of the underdog, and that's why you will not survive.
Especially with COVID surging.
