Investigation Non-Discovery

James Comey, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has concluded that, while Hilary Clinton shouldn't be prosecuted for e-mails sent through an unsecured server, she and her staff were very careless in how they sent e-mails on sensitive matters and opened themselves to possible hacking regarding classified information.  This is the sort of conclusion that humor writer Paul Slansky once described as "premature non-exoneration." (Attorney General Loretta Lynch won't seek charges.)
Nevertheless, Hillary is taking a victory lap over this, even as Republicans sit flabbergasted over Comey's decision.  (Comey is scheduled to testify on this case to a congressional committee today.)  House Speaker Paul Ryan said that Comey's decision not to press charges "defies explanation," while U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina - the only adult who ran for the Republican presidential nomination  - had this to say (and I agree with it, by the way):
"Secretary Clinton has shown a serious lack of judgement in this entire episode. She made sensitive, classified information vulnerable to America’s enemies.  While the FBI has made their decision, it won’t change the fact that Secretary Clinton flouted oversight and transparency norms by using a private e-mail server. The FBI was rightfully harsh in their assessment of her actions. Now the American people will have the final say in this matter."
Indeed they will.  But a lot of them will still have a hard time voting for Donald Trump, who's not exactly a reassuring beacon of light on national security issues either.  In fact, he doesn't need e-mails, or even tweets, to make us vulnerable to America's enemies.  He only needs his mouth!
There you have it for the choice in November - a careless Democrat versus a reckless Republican.  Good luck, my non-third-party-voting friends!
