By the Bay

Once again, President Obama has made a bid yet again to close the terrorist commando detention camp at Guantanamo Bay in that little piece of Cuba we've managed to hold onto since the Castro revolution.  In advance of a planned state visit to Cuba later this month, the President is suggesting that the 91 remaining prisoners be moved out of the center and transferred to stateside ultra-maximum security prisons, as many already have, saving the government an unnecessary $5 million annually to house the prisoners there and removing a potent symbol that has embarrassed the United States abroad and has encouraged anti-American terror commando recruiting by groups like al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
Not surprisingly, Republicans - who are also an embarrassment to the U.S. abroad - had their own reaction to Obama's suggestion.  Presidential candidate Donald Trump vowed to keep it open if elected, and his rival Ted Cruz demanded that it be expanded.  And in Congress U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) knew exactly what to do when he received Obama's suggestion in writing. He made a video of himself filing the document into one of these.
The Senate custodial staff is expected to carry out Obama's suggestion.
I thin kit's becoming clear that Obama, who wanted to transform America, has in fact presided over a transformative period.  We Americans are dumber than we were eight years ago.  And though how we administer justice and conduct ourselves in the eyes of the world should become an issue in the 2016 presidential campaign, that's as likely to happen as the closing of Guantanamo Bay. :-p
