Before the Storm

Well, the ice storm originally forecast by AccuWeather for the Martin Luther King holiday weekend - which some folks thought would actually be a snowstorm - is at this point turning out to be another rain "event" (I hate it when that word is used for a weather system, but what are you going to do?).  This system is actually interesting in this sense; like the previous rainstorm, it's pumping in warm air as it moves in, keeping the precipitation from falling in any frozen form.
That's a pattern I could be fine with for the rest of the winter (though we did get a little snow on Tuesday - but I still got my car to the repair shop!), but it likely won't work out like that. My part of the country could still see snow and/or ice - an ice storm can't be completely ruled out in an El NiƱo year - or, possibly a wintry mix or two, later in the month.  And truth be told, the rainfall the New York City area gets this weekend is actually the tail end of a powerful nor'easter that should dump snow and ice on a good deal of New England.  But for now, all is safe and sound in the Tri-State area.  Thanks for nothing, AccuWeather.
But, on the other hand, thanks for Llarisa Abreu. ;-)
