New and Old TV

The 2014-15 television season is well under way, with little fanfare . . . from me, anyway.  I haven't been able to keep up with everything - in fact, I missed the season premiere of "About a Boy" last night, so I'll have to catch it on On Demand - but I have seen at least one new show, NBC's "A to Z," that new show about a relationship from its beginning to its end, but with the ratings having dropped following the premiere, it might not make it to the end.  But I still think that star Cristin Milioti - late (pun intended) of "How I Met Your Mother" - has a bright future ahead of her. She certainly has a brighter future than most of the Democrats running for office this year.
Meanwhile, ABC picked up "black-ish," the ABC sitcom about a black suburban family trying to be more black than suburban, for a full season.  As it follows "Modern Family," it may very well be the show that breaks the curse of shows being cancelled simply because they followed "Modern Family."  And with "The Middle" and "The Goldbergs" on ABC earlier on Wednesday nights, ABC might finally have the solid Wednesday night sitcom block it's sought for the past five years.
One show I'll be sorry to see go is "Parenthood," now in its final season, and one show I'll be glad to see go is "Two And a Half Men," also in its final season - season number twelve.  No, it will not have been on as long as "Gunsmoke," but I'm ticked off at the fact that it will have been on as long as "Murder, She Wrote."
Back later . . .
