How Bin Laden Destroyed Democracy In America

It wasn't on 9/11.

Here's what happened:

George Walker Bush and John Kerry were in a dead heat in the polls in the 2004 presidential campaign.

Then on October 30, ten years ago today, Osama bin Laden made a tape to scare people into voting Republican in the upcoming election.

So Bush was elected to a second term.

So, when a Supreme Court vacancy opened up, Bush named Samuel Alito to the Court.

So, in 2010, the Supreme Court handed down its Citizens United decision allowing lots of money into the political system.

It was Justice Alito - from my hometown! - who cast the deciding vote.

And that's how bin Laden destroyed democracy in America.
