Armageddon Bustin' Out All Over

Well, those thunderstorms I mentioned earlier came and went, and to be sure, there were some storms here and there in New Jersey that may have stirred up a heavy wind gust here and there and possibly a brief blackout or two, but Armageddon did not happen.  That's not to say that the widespread damage that was originally forecast can't happen - in fact, there are more thunderstorms forecast for late next week, and the chances of them occurring and being widespread are great - but it didn't happen this time.  I wanted to go out for a previously planned party this past Tuesday night - yes, some people actually party on Tuesdays, despite what Chris Rock says - but I was worried about the weather.  When it became apparent that it would be just a lot of rain and the cold front wouldn't cause any storms of tropical-storm force (especially after I checked the weather report from the cable channel News 12 New Jersey's meteorologist Dave Curren), I told my mother I was going ahead and going to the party.
She was not pleased.  She was convinced Armageddon was on its way.
Perhaps it still is - and I don't mean the weather.  There's a border crisis involving Central American refugee children that the U.S. Government is unwilling or unable to solve.  In the Middle East, Israel is relentlessly bombing Palestinian strongholds in Gaza to exact revenge for a terrorist attack.  The Islamic State terrorist group has captured large swaths of Iraq and Syria in the hopes of starting a new Muslim caliphate.  While their application for United Nations admission is pending (yeah, right), civil war has broken out in Ukraine between the national government and pro-Russian separatists.  And even as that is going on, a Malaysian jet airliner has been shot down over the area of Ukraine where the war is going on, causing an international incident.
The end of the world as we'll know it . . .
