Remember that old tagline for Gremlins 2: "We warned you but you didn't listen!" Well, Uncle Charlie didn't listen to us when it came to Internet neutrality. The Federal Communications Commission went ahead and voted 3-2 to consider allowing Internet service providers to pay got faster connections, leaving the overwhelming majority of Internet users and content producers in the lurch. When all of us - including many conservatives - said no, the FCC said yes.
But all is not lost. Uncle Charlie has begun a process of taking comments on how to proceed, with the option of treating the Internet as the public utility it actually is, rather than creating faster "toll lanes" on the information superhighway. It's not the end yet. But it could be the beginning of the end, unless we band (no pun intended) together and tell the FCC to step back from the brink. We have to give FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler and his allies a piece of our minds, even those of us who can't spare it. Wheeler gave us a piece of his mind, as if we didn't already have enough troubles.
Uncle Charlie is acting more like a mean-spirited stepfather these days . . ..
