Dust Off Your Coating

Only five days ago, when spring "began," the New York City area was warned of a possible winter storm capable of dumping up to a foot of snow on the region by today and/or tomorrow.  Well, Eastern Long Island and Eastern Connecticut may see more than three inches, but that's the most of it for the Tri-State region.  New York City, Rockland and Westchester counties, Nassau County, western Connecticut, and Newark, Morristown and Trenton in New Jersey will only see a dusting to an inch or two, the sort of snow that can be shoved aside with a broom.  And you won't see a lot of snow in New Brunswick, either.
Unless you're referring to New Brunswick the Canadian province, not New Brunswick the New Jersey town.  The Canadian Maritimes will be dealing with a blizzard, and so will Cape Cod and possibly other parts of Massachusetts.  Even if you like lobster stew and an ocean view, you're sure to fall out of love with old Cape Cod if you have the misfortune of being there tonight.
After this week, that should be it for winter in the Big Apple and its environs for awhile.  Temperatures rebound later in the week, this coming last weekend of March will feature rain, and, unless you're a "How I Met Your Mother" fan, March will go out like a lamb on Monday, with calm weather.  While no one in the meteorology business expects snow in April, that doesn't mean we won't have to deal with bad weather going forward into the immediate future.  What was it T.S. Eliot said about April being the cruelest month?
And while you ponder that, consider this Sunday Peanuts strip (sans color), drawn by Minnesota-born-and-bred Charles Schulz, which appeared on this day in 1956.  (Click on the image to enlarge it.)
