Viktor! Viktor!

Viktor Ahn, formerly Ahn Hyun-soo, the former South Korean short-track speed skater who moved to Russia and became Russian citizen after a bitter conflict with the Korean Skating Union, just won the men's 500-meter race and the 5000-meter relay. The people of South Korea - who actually supported Ahn's decision to switch countries, given the accusations from Ahn's father that a coach wouldn't associate with Ahn and had conspired with other skaters to keep Ahn from becoming the overall champion - lost a reliable athlete.
If he competes in Pyeongchang in 2018, that could be very interesting . . . and obviously very awkward.
Ahn thought of going to the United States at first but found applying for Russian citizenship easier. Thanks for nothing, Speaker Boehner, you could have worked with the White House and done something about that.
And finally, the U.S. has a speed skating medal - the silver, in the men's 5000-meter short-track relay, which included speed skating star J.R. Celski.
