In 2004, George Walker Bush, an incumbent President in trouble and in danger of losing to a guy from Massachusetts in the presidential election, realized, as did his opponent, that Ohio would decide the outcome of the race. History may repeat itself to the letter this year, and Mitt Romney knows it. That's why he keeps going to Ohio to campaign. He plans to make many more appearances there before the week is out, and it's already Thursday.
I recall an interesting alternate history of what would have happened if the South had won the Civil War. In this alternate history, the Confederacy annexed Washington, D.C. and the defeated Union had to build a new capital in Columbus, Ohio. If I were advising President Obama, I'd tell him to pretend that this history is true. In other words, he should live in Columbus for the rest of the month and campaign throughout the state, and forget about the South. Well, okay, maybe he can still win Virginia, and Florida is more in the South than of it these days, but you get the picture. Romney certainly does.
So, how about that vice presidential debate tonight? :-D
