Incredible!
Nathan Adrian of the United States edged out the favored James Magnussen of Australia in the men's 100-meter freestyle Olympic swim race by one one-thousandth of a second and won the gold medal, the first American to do so since Matt Biondi in Seoul in 1988.
There's just one thing I still don't understand:
How did a crawlstroke become known as a "freestyle?"
Meanwhile, back at the beach volleyball court, a pair of ugly Austrian sisters, Stefanie and Doris Schwaiger, defeated the beautiful Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings in the first set of a three-set match, breaking the American duo's consecutive 32-win streak in Olympic competition . . . though May-Treanor and Walsh-Jennings won the match. Nevertheless, I was shocked.
Ugly Austrian women? I never heard of such a thing!
Oh come on, I'm only kidding around!
I'm not kidding about Rebecca Soni when I say that she said a new world's record in the women's 200-meter breaststroke, after having set it originally in Beijing in 2008 but then seen it broken by Canada's Annamay Pierse in 2009. So she got the gold medal again? Oh, no - this was just a semifinal! She races for the gold tomorrow, and Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte also qualified for the men's 200-meter IM.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all in London . . .
