The presidential campaign is getting sillier. A cash-starved McCain campaign is spending exorbitant amounts of money on Sarah Palin's wardrobe, even as John McCain decries nonessential spending in Washington, and then the Republicans claim to be on the side of ordinary people. They claim Barack Obama is an elitist while Joe McCain - John's brother - thinks he's privileged enough to get customized traffic reports from 911. Meanwhile, more Republicans continue to support Obama. And Michelle Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman accusing the Democrats of anti-Americanism, attempts to invoke the late Barry Goldwater ("My heart is right") even as Goldwater's own grandchildren come out for Obama.
And then there's the disturbed Pennsylvania woman who gave every McCain supporter a black eye by literally giving herself one, carving a backwards "B" in her cheek, and claiming a black Obama supporter did it to punish her for the McCain bumper sticker on her car when he - you guessed it - robbed her.
I'm cautiously optimistic. Obama could win, as long as Joe Biden doesn't say something stupid.
Maybe it's for the best that Biden is taking time off from campaigning. . . .
I'm almost ready for the whole thing to be over. . . .
