It's Biden

It's official. Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. is Barack Obama's vice presidential running mate.
And if you thought Obama had a middle name problem. . . .
That out of the way, Democrats have breathed a sigh of relief since the choice of Joe Biden became official. A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, the senior senator from Delaware brings a lot of heart and grit to the ticket, which Obama needs to win enough votes from blue-collar constituents who, despite the fact that the Republicans have screwed them over so much, have actually considered voting for John McCain. Biden also brings a lot of foreign policy experience to the ticket, and can assure voters that he will be the voice of reason in an Obama administration.
His liabilities? He talks too much, and he sometimes says things that get him in trouble, like when he commented on all the Indians you always see running 7-Elevens. That's not going to help with . . . Wawa voters! :-O
Ultimately, though, people don't vote for Vice President. They vote for President. And Obama knows it. He has work to do.
Two months ago, no one thought that John McCain could find a way to run against Obama without subliminally using race and age against him. But he's done just that.
Some final comments on the Olympics later . . .
